Kapkwai is a three routes of 4-7 km, this hike takes you through different surrounding vegetation, during Elgon hike other attractions along on the way which includes different beautiful caves, waterfalls, amazing escarpments and few stop overs at viewpoints, for the bird watching lovers Mt Elgon national park is one of the best bird watching destination in Uganda and in East Africa, Elgon has many bird species which includes Eastern Bronze-napped Pigeon, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Lemon Dove, Dusky-Turtle Dove, African Hill Babbler, Alpine Chat, Mountain Yellow Warbler and many others species with also different monkey species.
The Kapkwai 7km hike trail to takes 3 to 4 hours walk/hiking through bamboo forest, but you can as well choose to use longer route of 11km via Tutum Cave but with this route you have to have an overnight camping, when you use this route you will get a chance to visit Khauka Cave, hiking via this trail also gives you another option of hiking to the viewpoint through Nabuyoga loop which gives you clear view of Jackson’s Summit and Wagagai peak.

Uganda hiking safari in Mount Elgon from different trails to Wagagai Peak?
Mt Elgon hike via Piswa trail, it is 49 km which will require you 7 days to get to Mt Elgon highest peak of Wagagai Peak. This trail is one of the longest but it is also easier to hike, hiking Elgon via Piswa trail give opportunity to see different wildlife and a clear view of Karamoja plains and Kenyan parts of Kapeguria hills.
Hike Mount Elgon via Sipi trail which is 56 km, as you start the hike via Sipi trail it normally starts gently but as you get towards day 3 it becomes tougher.
This trail starts from Kapkwai tourists’ center at 2,050m. This Sipi trail is also one of longest trail to use when hiking Mt Elgon to Wagagai peaks, this trail takes you through the northwestern part of Elgon, and via this trail you will also visit Tutum Cave towards Wagagai Peak.
Mt Elgon hiking via Sasa trail, it is known as the shortest route but also known as the toughest route to reach Wagagai peak, Sasa trail takes you through different villages and local home-stay which also gives you a chance to interact local communities in the area as you walk their farming land, this trail takes minimum of 4 days of Elgon hike, Sasa trail start from Budadiri tourism center.
