Uganda has over 10 gorilla families and these are located in different parts of bwindi impenetrable forest and mugahinga national park. These gorilla families at times determine your type of accommodation, therefore it is very important that you contact us once you have decided to go for gorilla trekking so that we can advise you well enough on where you will be staying.
Bwindi impenetrable forest has most of these gorilla families located in the northern part of the park and these are mubare, rushegura, butukura, habinyanja, oruzogo, and kyaguriro and in the southern part of the park we have nshongi, kahungye, nkuringo, bweza and mishaya.
These families above can be tracked all round the year as this however will depend on permit availability and a client’s willingness to travel to the gorillas.
In Rwanda these can be found in the parc national des volcano which is found in the virunga and shares borders with mughahinga national park in Uganda. However it’s important to note that these gorilla permits in Rwanda cost $750 while in Uganda it costs $500. Uganda wildlife authority is however proposing to increase the Uganda fee starting next year July and this however will be communicated in the future or when you contact us for a gorilla safari.
In Uganda however during the months of April and May gorilla permits go for $350 and Uganda wildlife authority is planning on announcing this discount for the month of November as well.
Tracking of gorillas is good all year round however this also depends on permit availability and also in some months of June, July and August there tends to be high demand hence you are advised that you book your gorilla permits 6 months in advance so as to avoid disappointments.
