Day 3

Chimpanzee tracking in kibale Forest

Chimpanzee Trekking

After having a heavy breakfast in preparation for a long forest walk searching for the chimpanzees. You may track chimpanzees either in Kyambura Gorge also known as the Valley of Apes or Karinju Community Forest. Chimps normally stay in groups known as troops, of about 30 – 80 individuals. The large groups consist of smaller, very flexible groups of fewer members, possibly all females, or all males, or at times mixed groups.

Later you will be transferred to Bwindi National Park. It is a relaxing drive through Ishasha Game Reserve for the famous tree-climbing lions. It is somewhat uncommon for lions to climb trees. There are no more than 2 populations in the whole world of such lions that climb trees as one of their day-after-day behaviors. One of these populations is found within the Ishasha sector which is found in the south part of the well-known Queen Elizabeth National Park. The day will end with an overnight stay at Bush Lodge, Irungu Safari Lodge, or at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 2

Kazinga Channel Queen Elisabeth National Park Kasenyi Game Drive

Game drive and boat cruise

The day starts with a heavy breakfast at your hotel. This will be followed by a game drive into the northern part of the Queen Elizabeth National Game Park, following the Kasenyi Track also known as North Kazinga, in search of lions, elephants, buffaloes, and other wildlife. These animals that dwell in the grassland thickets of the Northern Kazinga close to Mweya. And there will be a stop at the salt lakes.

After lunch, you are guided to the Mweya Peninsula for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The shores of the lake attract a large concentration of mammals, birds as well as reptiles all year around. While on the boat you will see big herds of buffaloes, monkeys, bushbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, and the Defassa waterbuck, crocodiles; beautiful birds like Cassin’s grey flycatcher, broad-billed roller, and bee-eater live along the banks of Lake Edward.

Day 4

Gorilla Trekking Uganda Rwanda-rushaga gorilla habituation experience

Gorilla Trekking

We begin the day with a very early heavy breakfast since gorilla trekking will include a long forest walk. Accompanied by a packed lunch and at least 2 bottles of drinking water, cameras, and binoculars. You will be transported to the park headquarters for briefing by the senior park ranger. The fact that gorillas, as a species are on the brink of extinction and treks, are a highly restricted activity, encountering wild gorillas is considered a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.

Penetrate the dense tropical forest with a tropical green canopy until you encounter the mountain gorillas. As their name implies, mountain gorillas live in forests high in the mountains, at elevations of 8,000 to 13,000 feet. They have thicker fur, and more of it, compared to other great apes. Park officials will allow you to stay in their presence for ample time. The time taken to encounter the gorillas trekking ranges between an hour and five hours. Then you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 5

Day 6

golden monkeys in Mgahinga National Park

Golden Monkeys Tracking

You will receive transportation to the Mgahinga National Park headquarters for briefing. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park sits high in the clouds, at an altitude of between 2,227m and 4,127m. As its name suggests, it was created to protect the rare mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests, and it is also an important habitat for the endangered golden monkey. You will then set off for a great hike over the volcanic terrain in search of Golden Monkeys in the bamboo forests.

Mgahinga National Park shares borders with Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. Listen to their folk tales and songs. End the day with an overnight stay at Travellers Rest Hotel-Kisoro or at Ikoro Hotel.
