GORILLA TRACKING IN BUHOMA SECTOR
Gorilla Tracking in Buhoma
Section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Gorilla Tracking Buhoma Section Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has several sectors where gorilla trekking takes place and one of them is the Buhoma Area located in Kanungu District. Buhoma Section is popular with tourists as it was the first place in Uganda where gorilla trekking takes place started from. The first group of tourists to see gorillas in Uganda did it in the Buhoma region of Bwindi forest National Park and this was in 1993. This, therefore, implies that the Buhoma region has the oldest habituated gorilla family in the whole of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and this family is called the Mubare group. The family currently has 12 members a factor highly attributed to the Late Ruhondeza (who died in 2013). Ruhondeza grew older and could not effectively defend the family leading to break ways that later weakened the family. By the time of Ruhondeza’s death, the family had only 4 members but after his death, then new silverback embarked on an aggressive campaign that has seen the group capture some individuals from other families to the tune of nine members. It is believed that with the ambition of the new silverback, the family is likely to grow on numbers.
Other gorilla families that can be trekked from where gorilla trekking takes place of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park include the Rushegura gorilla family which has 18 members and the Habinyanja Group that has 21 individuals. In early 2015, a certain video went viral showing a man with gorillas around him (this was rushegura family).
