Chimpanzee Habituation Experience Permit in Uganda – As many tourists who are interested in primates come to Uganda mainly for the Chimps and Gorilla tracking, however, something new and much more interesting was added to the list and it is the Habituation experience.

What is Chimpanzee Habituation?

Chimpanzee Habituation is the process of making wild primates get used to having human beings around and preparing them to be tracked later on. This can be done for both Chimps and Gorillas taking close to a period of 2 to 3 years to be completed. This can involve a team of scientists, researchers, trackers, park rangers, Guides, and others.

Cost of a Chimpanzee Habituation Permits?

The cost of a Chimpanzee Habituation Permit can be issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) at a cost of $250 and $230 per person in Kibale and Budongo respectively for those taking part in the activity. This is more expensive than Chimpanzee trekking for those taking part in the activity in Kabale and Budongo at a cost of $200 and $85 per person respectively.

The visitors taking part in this activity have longer hours as compared to those who are carrying out chimpanzee tracking who spend an hour tracking the chimpanzee when they are able to see them.

When to go for Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Kibale National Park?

One can carry out a Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Kibale National Park at any time throughout the year with the best period being during the wet season known as the low season of the month of March, April, May, and December. In the wet season, there is less mobbing with plenty of food in the park thus locating the chimpanzee becomes easier compared to the dry season when the chimpanzees move deep into the forest in pursuit of food.
